Phil Johnson Draws Circle of Pneuma

Phil Johnson, from Global Apologetics & Mission, Sydney, today posted on the Emerging Church and Emerging New Religions. Check it out at his blog, Circle of Pneuma. As well – his article on “Do it yourself spirituality” was published at Emerging Church Info.

I’ve never met Phil that I know of. But he sounds like an interesting guy. He’s likely best known for his booth work at New Age festivals, offering Christian Tarot card reading.

He describes his blog as

“Reflections on life, spiritual growth, spiritual dialogue, spirited action on today’s pressing issues, and challenging complacent conformist consumerist forms of Christianity. Pneuma is the Greek word for Spirit (also breath and wind). The circle refers to the planet. So Circle of Pneuma = World of the Spirit.”

Phil’s major challenge to traditional and emerging churches is to find ways of connecting with people who are developing a ‘do-it-yourself’ approach to life and spirituality. Instead of arguing over being incarnational or attractional, we should be seriously engaging in dialogue with those who couldn’t care less about postmodernism or praise and worship.

There’s some carefully thought out dialogue happening at Phil’s blog, with regular comments from Hamo, a blogger from West Australia.

Phil has spent some time lecturing at the Presbyterian Theological College in Sydney though I’m not sure if he’s still there. He’s published his work in books (with Ross Clifford) and in journals in the UK and USA (including Sacred Tribes Journal and Cornerstone, the magazine linked with Rez Band).
