The Toyota ‘can’t wait for tomorrow’ ad continues to haunt Australian televisions, with its Tchaikovsy ballet-like music and charming sense of anticipation. Launched back in April/May 2005, the ad was designed by Publicis Mojo Australia to rebrand Toyota as the mystical, innovative, environmentally friendly car of the future.
The key 60 second spot was shot in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We start with a young boy looking into the window of a city shop. His mother grabs his hand and leads him home to bed. We see the city shutting down for the night. There’s an excitement about tomorrow that could beat waiting for Santa Claus! Finally the last light goes out. We’re given the assurance of a future that is cleaner, safer and more exciting. The ad finishes with a shot of Toyota’s Sportivo Coupe.
