Apple launched the video ipod on 12 October with an ‘exclusive’ television ad featuring U2 singing ‘Original of the Species’, Live from Chicago. The shot starts with The Edge on keyboards, moving to Bono on vocals. “Everywhere you go, you shout it, you don’t have to be shy about it, no…” Larry Mullen’s on drums as the camera pans out to reveal the video being played on an iPod. Adam Clayton looks on as Bono pick up the vocals again. The clear crisp white words “Watch Your Music” on a blackground introduce us to the revolving iPod and the words, “The New iPod” and the white Apple icon.

Apple’s advertising is created in the house of TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles and follows on the success of U2’s launch of the iPod with their song, Vertigo.
The video was directed by Mark Romanek from Anonymous Content.
The song, “Original of the Species” was first sung at the Apple Press Conference in October 2004, for the release of the U2 special edition iPod. It features on the DVD, “Vertigo 2005: Live from Chicago”, along with 22 other electric performances. Songs are drawn from across the band’s entire career – from first album fan favorites such as “Electric Co,” through U2 classics such as “Pride…,” “New Years Day” and “Where the Streets Have No Name” and right up to date with “Vertigo” the smash hit that launched the studio album “How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.”
