Coldplay Lovers in Japan

Coldplay’s music video for Lovers In Japan, directed by Mat Whitecross in London, provides a pastiche of effects using ‘screen within screen’, spiralling, fluorescent lyrics, fireworks and paper butterflies. The video is framed with shots the band seen through television screens from the 1960s and 1970s. Members of the band are shown writing samples of the lyrics and associated images in glowing neon on the screen. The video ends with butterfly-shaped confetti raining on the band.

Lyrics for Lovers in Japan

Lovers, keep on the road you’re on
Runners, until the race is run
Soldiers, you’ve got to soldier on
Sometimes even right is wrong

They are turning my head out
To see what I’m all about
Keeping my head down
To see what it feels like now
But I have no doubt
One day, we are gonna get out

Tonight maybe we’re gonna run
Dreaming of the Osaka sun
Ohh ohh…
Dreaming of when the morning comes

They are turning my head out
To see what I’m all about
Keeping my head down
To see what it feels like now
But I have no doubt
One day the sun will come out
