SmartRider makes Piggy Banks redundant

SmartRider, Transperth‘s contactless electronic ticketing system, is being promoted as the beginning of the end for small change in an advertising campaign featuring desperate piggy banks.

Pink piggy banks take to the streets in protest, only to be met by riot police. The public is not sympathetic. Attempts to steal SmartRider cards have backfired and reports are coming in that piggybanks are being used as vases and threatened with smashing. Is there a future for piggybanks? Maybe not, by the looks of the pigletbanks without slots.
