Shangri La Travel Agency in Brazil has a print advertising campaign reminding potential travellers about the ways in which a trip overseas can change everything. “A trip can change your life”. Charles Spencer Chaplin, brought up in London, toured the United States with the Fred Karno troupe from 1910 to 1912, finally settling in Hollywood as Charlie Chaplin. Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu grew up in Albania. She joined the Sisters of Loreta in 1928, spending some time training in Ireland before travelling to India in 1929 where she later came to be known as Mother Teresa. Ernesto (Che) Guevara grew up in Argentina. He took a break from medical studies in 1951 to ride around South America in 1951, writing the Motorcycle Diaries as he travelled.

The Shangri-La campaign was developed at Agencia3 Comunicacao Integrada, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by creative director Álvaro Rodrigues, copywriter Pedro Levier, art director Tiago Peregrino, art buyer Bárbara Borges, account supervisor Cândida Quadrelli, advertiser’s supervisor Monica Olivence.

The Shangri-La campaign won a Gold Press Lion at Cannes International Advertising Festival, 2008.

  1. Fantastic photography, but it looks as though those particular travelers may have benefited more from staying home. Look how handsome Charlie Chaplin was before he got to America and look what we did to him.
